Irena Frantal

Irena Frantal (b. 1979) is a visual artist from Zagreb, Croatia.
She studied book arts (MA Book Arts) at the University of the Arts in London,
where she lived for three years. Her practice is based on exploration of the
medium of the book; she is interested in the relationship of the viewer and the
book. She publishes limited-edition books and exhibits regularly (latest solo
show is currently installed in a gallery in Zagreb). She collaborates with
different artists on book projects: book Open Book Zagreb (2013) was funded
by the city of Zagreb and was awarded at the design festival. She runs book
art workshops.

Punk in Tranås book project is the perfect platform for transformation of one
important point in time and space through artistic exploration of means of
communication that seem obsolete but also romantic from our perspective.
The idea for the book was born at the art residency in Tranås when Milica and
I were introduced to the rich cultural layer of punk scene from the 70s and 80s
that still lingers in this small town.
