Julia Dahee Hong (b. 1992) is an emerging second generation Korean-Canadian artist and a recent graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2015), Vancouver, Canada. Predominantly working across photography, performance, writing, sculpture and installation, Hong’s practice often takes anecdotes as a starting point, questioning the accuracy of memory and engaging with the notion of physical and emotional labour to subtly highlight thematics related to multicultural identity and cultural diaspora within the landscape of cultural globalization. Over the past couple years, Hong has exhibited in Canada and Europe while simultaneously developing a steady curatorial practice. Concurrently, she self-published several artists’ books that are now a part of collections in Canada, Sweden, and the United States. Most recently, she was awarded a place in Artspeak’s Studio for Emerging Writers in Vancouver, Canada and participated in the Unnoticed Art Festival #2 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Hong currently lives and works in Vancouver, Canada.
