Anna Ádám

Anna Ádám is a Franco-Hungarian visual and performance artist. After developing an interest in the conception and fabrication of design scenic elements – especially costumes – she studied Fashion design in Paris and Art at the National Superior Art School of Paris-Cergy. Today she combines her knowledge in the field of textile with performance to explore the performative and the choreographical potential of the garment.

Anna Ádám’s projects range from interdisciplinary individual works to collaborative productions, curatorial projects and critical writing (Le Monde Diplomatique, Hungary).

Anna Ádám co-founded Gray Box Projects in 2014 with the Swedish contemporary dancer/maker Sally O’Neill. Through interdisciplinary collaborative productions (with other artists, dancers, designers…), performances, and workshops, Gray Box Projects aims to experiment with the interactions and common territories of performing arts, stage performance (dance, theater…), and fashion: “white cube”, “black box”, and catwalk.

In 2015, Anna Ádám founded the Gray Box Projects Performance Company composed of artists, dancers, actors, designers, and theoreticians (philosopher, cultural anthropologist and sociologist). Based on cross cultural understanding, interdisciplinary, art and performance research based-collaborations, and collective creative process in free improvisation, the company creates choreographed, scenographed, and orchestrated experience-based site-specific exhibition and performance projects on the intersection of visual arts, performing arts, stage-performance (dance, theater), and fashion.

Since 2013, Anna Ádám regularly holds performance, dance and creative movement workshops in Armenia, France, and Hungary for amateurs and professionals as well.

Anna Ádám’s works and performances were presented in museums, galleries, and art fairs through Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia such as the 59th Montrouge Art Fair (Montrouge, France), Modern Art Museum (Yerevan, Armenia),  Anzenberger Gallery (Vienna, Austria), Dorothy Polley Gallery (Paris, France), Gallery Le Carreau (Cergy, France), Varna City Art Gallery (Varna, Bulgaria), Design Terminal – Contemporary Design Center (Budapest, Hungary), Gallery YGREC (Paris, France), Biennial of Contemporary Art (Szentendre, Hungary) etc.
